Parent and student testimonials
I want to thank you for a great job teaching this class. You did an excellent job teaching students writing skills at a college prep level. I especially appreciated the essay rubric and the straightforward instructions. Guiding them with thesis formation and a solid plan for body paragraphs, introductions, and conclusions ensured that they learned the proper way to write an academic essay, while still allowing creativity. Repetitive essay writing within this framework has instilled confidence in my student’s ability and he is now a very capable independent writer. Also, I appreciate the other aspects of your course including SAT level vocabulary, requiring note taking on lectures, discussions, and creative and collaborative projects. Dawn S., parent
Vicki’s class is amazing and the best part is how she motivates the kids to do the work. [My daughter] is so organized now and driven and has learned time management. It’s been amazing to see this change in her. Plus, Vicki doesn’t let them slack off! I seriously love Vicki’s Jr. High class!!!! Tina V., parent
Vicki’s literature classes are an answer to prayer. Writing is such a hard subject to teach at home, but since I put my daughter in her Introduction to Literature class, she has blossomed as a reader, a writer, and a thinker. Vicki’s class is well organized and systematic. She breaks up the skills to be learned into manageable chunks so that students are not overwhelmed and they gradually progress throughout the year. She teaches thoroughly and gives plenty of in-class practice. Her assignments and directions are always reasonable and clear. One of the best aspects of the class are the discussions the students have together about the books. Vicki keeps the class focused while allowing fun and laughter. It has been a very positive experience for my daughter. Julie A. - parent
"Mrs. Stormoen’s American Literature class was such a wonderful and fruitful opportunity for me in my Senior year. From The Scarlet Letter to A Separate Peace, I am grateful to have learned a few do’s and numerous do-not’s by reading this selection of literature. Before each reading assignment, Mrs. Stormoen presents a “Background Lecture” on the piece. These have helped me to grasp where the authors are coming from and sometimes what inspires them to write their books. Throughout her class, you will receive a plethora of assignments: some expect you to write, while others encourage you to discuss. The essay assignments and “email scenarios” (in-class email writing assignments) have helped me to organize my thoughts on paper and vary my use of sentence structure. Furthermore, her discussions presented me with the chance to open up a bit and express my ideas. Overall, her class provided me with a better understanding of writing, vocabulary, and American History. Whether thought-questions or class discussions, her assignments helped me further understand the books and come to a conclusion on what to “take away” from them. Finally, she ended the year with a book trailer -- a ridiculously fun and great teamwork-building experience. All in all, I have learned so much through Mrs. Stormoen’s American Literature class and am thrilled to be equipped with these skills for the future."

My daughter took Vicki’s class, Introduction to Literature, this past year and has enjoyed it immensely. She couldn’t wait to go to class each week! The students read numerous classical novels and followed each book with essays in response. Vicki brings a variety of things to the class time with lively on-topic discussions, the teaching of writing dynamics and vocabulary study. The papers were thoroughly assessed with not only in-depth feedback but also encouraging suggestions. Vicki is a very organized teacher, and the class had a well laid out schedule which included an achievable homework load. Vicki stayed very connected to the group through the year as she communicated regularly through email with class updates. Perhaps this is why her classes are so popular—I would greatly recommend these series of Literature classes from Vicki Stormoen for your child. Anna K., parent
[My daughter] just finished her first college English class...and it was a breeze. I just wanted to say thank you for preparing her so well. She couldn’t have done it without your teaching. Julie P., parent
I have learned SO much taking classes on Fridays with Mrs.Stormoen! There are many subjects we cover, and one of the skills we learn about is presentations. The practice of making speeches throughout the year has definitely given me more confidence. Now, when various situations come up, I have more courage and speaking skills to take on new opportunities. I also like how our class is small and comfortable, and how we play fun and competitive review games. Thank you Mrs.Stormoen! :) Alyssa B., student, From Adam to Us
This is our second year with children taking classes from Vicki - we definitely plan to keep going back! Her reading selections have been challenging and engendered good analysis and discussion among the students. We have appreciated Vicki's thoughtful development of the classes and the intentional way that she develops the students' abilities. We would definitely recommend her classes to anyone! Having two of my children participate in Vicki's classes has blessed our school year immensely. They are both excited to arrive at class each week and have thrived in their studies. It has provided them with the opportunity to present in front of their peers and has inspired them to work hard. I can't wait until my third child can participate in these classes! Julie J., parent
