AMERICAN LITERATURE is recommended for 10th-12th grades
This class will be taught at the HCS Academy for the 2022-2023 school year.
Cost: $400/year (+ Academy Admin fee)
In American Literature, students will write essays about the various classic works of fiction they are reading. Literary periods and movements will be emphasized. The class includes one in-class essay, one collaborative research paper, vocabulary work, and the creation of a book trailer. The students will also work on writing formal, professional, email correspondence. NOTE: A laptop, tablet, or similar device is required periodically in class.
PRE-REQ: Students should already be familiar and have experience writing 5 paragraph essays in MLA format. Helpful but not required: MLA formatted research paper experience. A minimum of one year in a high school level writing class or curriculum is required. New students must submit a writing sample. Existing students must have passed previous class with a C or better.
